Negatives of fishing
Intro: Fishing is a popular and enjoyable pass time amongst Australians, it is also a profitable industry to be in. As harmless as it seems, it does have its down sides though. Both commercial and recreational fishing can have a huge effect on the marine life that inhibits our waters.
Recreational: It is one of the State's most popular pastimes with an estimated third of the population fishing recreationally. With such a large potentiate of the Australia’s population partaking in recreational fishing there is quite a lot of fish being taking from the gold coast water ways each year. This makes it hard for fish to reproduce and with fish numbers reducing and the Gold coast population increasing something needs to be done before it’s too late.

This is why it is essential to make sure fishermen follow the rules to keep our fish resources sustainable. Birds, turtles, dolphins and manter rays are just some of the marine life affected by recreational fishing. Lines hooks and bait packets are three of the main things that trap chock and kill marine wild life! Recreational fisherman are not substituted to as much rules as commercial fisherman. This means they will just leave hooks, line and other fishing gear lying around for marine creatures to get caught in. here is a link for Negatives of fishing

Commercial: The trawl fishery is Queensland's largest commercial fishery, with about 600 vessels catching up to 10,000 tonnes of product each year. There are 2 basic types of trawling: otter trawling and beam trawling. The otter trawl fishery is by far the larger, accounting for about 95% of the total harvest taken each year.
Commercial fisherman also use a method of fishing called long lining. This is on long line with thousands of individual hooks and bait, these long lines can stretch up to 75 miles. These long lines don’t just catch fish, other marine life such as turtles, whales and dolphins can get hooked and tangled in these long lines. Once hooked the fish are left overnight, luring any animal in the area to grab a free meal. Once hooked, some animals drown or bleed to death in the water, and many others struggle for hours until the boat returns to reel them in.
With such a high demand of fish and so many fish dyeing and going to waist the fishing industry has decimated our ocean ecosystems. In fact, 90 percent of large fish populations have been exterminated in the past 50 years. This will in turn affect the fishing truism. With such little and small fish people will no longer want to come to the once called fish abundant gold coast.
